About Me
Michael B. Hough received both his
Bachelor of Music Education and
Master of Music in Conducting
degrees from Winthrop University.
He is currently A.B.D. on
his Doctorate of Musical Arts in
Clarinet Performance at the University of South Carolina.
His clarinet teachers include
Eugene Kavadlo, Dr. Phil Thompson, and Joseph Eller.
While working on his Masters,
he served as the Instrumental
Graduate Assistant at Winthrop and studied under Dr. William
Malambri.
After completing his Masters,
Mr. Hough served as the Associate
Director of Bands at Providence High School
in Charlotte, North Carolina,
from 2003 until 2006.
He has established himself in
the area as an active performer.
In addition to being a solo
performer, Mr. Hough performs with
many local orchestral groups, small
ensembles, and Broadway musicals.
He actively serves as a
clinician and solo performer with
local high schools groups.
While on faculty at Winthrop, Mr. Hough has taught Woodwind
Methods, Marching Band Techniques,
Computer Music Technology, Clarinet
Choir and Applied Woodwinds.
He was the 2001 winner of the
Bruce Thompson Concerto Competition.
Mr. Hough currently resides
in Charlotte with his wife
Jennifer and dogs, Chloe and Emma.
He plays on Vandoren
mouthpieces, Chadash barrels, and
Buffet clarinets.
